Life Stories Memoir Program - Session 1

6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Event Details

The Covid-19 pandemic has created a public health crisis across the country, and is also having a grave economic and social impact.  Businesses have closed; special events are cancelled; family members are unable to see each other; and even the way in which we carry out everyday activities, like getting a haircut or going to the grocery store, has changed.  These are truly unprecedented times!

Writing down your memories of this historic period helps creates an important record for future generations.  To help you get started, the Urbandale Public Library is bringing back the popular Life Stories memoir writing program for two special sessions focused on recording memories of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In this program, you’ll work to create a collection of short memoirs to share now and pass on to future generations. We’ll share writing prompts and talk about our memories.  Ideas generated in class will be fine-tuned at home and read aloud, if desired, at the next session.  As an optional activity, participants will be invited to submit a completed memoir to be included in a special publication created by Library staff.

No previous writing experience is needed to participate and writers of all skill levels are welcome. The focus will be on the value of writing down your memories, not your writing style!

Please register for each session individually. Each session  will be presented online via Zoom. Be sure to include an email address to receive the link for the meeting. We will email participants a participation before the event. Please only register once per household!
