Beginning Weaving on a Cardboard Loom

1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Event Details

Join the Des Moines Weavers and Spinner’s Guild for a hands-on art workshop as part of our Artist in Residence series. This session is for adults 18 and over.

If you have thought about learning to weave, but didn’t want to invest in expensive equipment, this is the class for you!  By using a piece of cardboard, you will learn to warp the loom to make a circular piece of weaving suitable for a small pouch.  We will then learn plain weave, how to add in additional lengths of yarn, change colors, and produce stripes and dots.  Using the cardboard loom to create a flat weave for a tapestry piece will also be discussed.  While the piece may not be finished by the end of the class, instruction on finishing the piece and removing it from the loom will be provided.

Each individual participant must register to receive supplies. Participants will be able to pick up a supplies kit in the week before the class.  Participants will need to provide their own scissors and a kitchen fork.

This program will be presented via Zoom. Be sure to include an email address to receive the link for the meeting.
