Women's History Month Film Festival - Day 2

This four-day festival will celebrate the contributions women have made to film throughout history. From the early work of silent filmmakers Lois Weber and Alice Guy BlacheĀ“ to award-winning documentaries to contemporary feature films, we will screen a variety of films created by and about women!

All films will be shown in the ICN Room of the Urbandale Public Library, 3520 86th Street, Urbandale. Free popcorn and snacks will be provided.  Feel free to bring your own refreshments (no alcohol please).  


Wadjda (98 minutes, PG, 2012)

Written and directed by Haifaa al-Mansour, Wadjda is the first feature film shot entirely in Saudi Arabia and the first feature-length film made by a female Saudi director.  The story follows a determined 10-year-old Saudi girl and her quest to buy a bicycle.  She enters her school's Koran recitation competition in hopes of winning the money she needs.  Critically acclaimed and winner of numerous awards, including the Alliance of Women Film Journalists Outstanding Achievement by a Woman in the Film Industry award; the Boston Society of Film Critics Award for Best Foreign Language Film; Best Film and Best Actress Awards from the Dubai Film Festival; and the Los Angeles Film Festival Best International Feature.
